Earl Ofari Hutchinson's take on the politics of the day
Call Comes After Shocking Videotape of Noel Aguilar Slaying
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson on Tuesday, December 22 called on the Los Angeles County of Board of Supervisors to establish a Sheriff's Use of Force Task Force to examine the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's policy and procedures on the use of deadly force. The call comes in the wake of the disclosure of the videotaped shooting of Noel Aguilar. The controversial shooting along with the prior shooting of Nicholas Robertson by Sheriff's deputies raises serious questions about the department's use of deadly force in civilian and suspect encounters.
Hutchinson will call for the creation of the Task Force on KPOO San Francisco 89.5 FM Tuesday, December 22 at 6:30 PM
"The L.A. County Board of Supervisors has direct oversight over the Sheriff's Department through funding and reporting requirements," says Hutchinson, "A special use of force task force is crucial to conduct a full and comprehensive review of the Sheriff's department's use of force procedures, policies and training. The Aguilar shooting and other questionable shootings by deputies again call into question whether sheriff's over use excessive and deadly force."
