Call Comes in the Wake of the Death of Alesia Thomas After LAPD Arrest
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other civil rights leaders on Saturday, September 1 called for an emergency meeting with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck to thoroughly review LAPD policy and procedures on arrests in child endangerment cases. The call for a review and change in policy is prompted by the death of Alesia Thomas after her arrest and during alleged confrontation with LAPD officers.
“The death of Alesia Thomas raises serious questions about the arrest and use of force officers use in child endangerment cases,” says Hutchinson, “This once more requires a thorough review of LAPD policies and procedures on the most effective and safe way to handle suspects in tense and sensitive situations.”
