Los Angeles Civil Rights Leaders Salute Civil Rights Icon
Willis Edwards
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other Los Angeles civil rights leaders on Friday, July 13 paid deep and profound gratitude to NAACP Board Member Willis Edwards for his fierce, uncompromising, and unrelenting dedication to the fight for racial justice, equal rights and opportunities and social fairness. They praised his many decades of tireless work in the fight for civil rights and equal opportunity that stands as a beacon of strength and hope for minorities and the disenfranchised. His zest for life, his infectious joy, and his boundless love for humanity affected one and all that had the honor, privilege and pleasure to know and work with him, and who loved him. Edward’s life and work will be praised, celebrated and remembered for the ages.
“Willis Edwards’s civil rights accomplishments are well-known but equally important he was not just a warrior for justice but I’m proud to say he was a great and lasting friend” says Hutchinson, “A friend who stood with me many times on the front line in the fight against injustice. One of my greatest joys was to honor Willis with the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable Civil Rights Justice Award on May 6 in a ceremony attended by hundreds including Willis’s family members at the VA Hospice. It was a momentous and moving occasion that was cherished by all, and above all by Willis.”
