America Must Share The Blame
America has always been seen as the last bastion of hope by the rest of the world when it has comes to justice. The belief is in America, if you are charged with a crime, you have the right to counsel, you will get a fair trial, be judged by a jury of your peers, and if you are innocent, you will be free.
So where is the justice for Troy Anthony Davis?
It seems ironic that this isn’t the case in this very sad matter. Troy has maintained his innocence from day 1. So called witnesses have since recanted their testimony. There were even reports of coercion by law enforcement officials in order to obtain testimony in order to convict Mr. Davis.
With improved technology, we have sadly discovered that many innocent people have been wrongly executed by the very same authorities that are supposed to protect us. Ironically, there is no DNA evidence in this matter, only recanted testimony that is indisputable.
Understand that I am not a anti-death penalty advocate. If a person is guilty of a crime, they must pay the price. However, if a person isn’t guilty of a crime, then that individual should be set free and recompenses should be given. Can we really feel okay if another individual who isn’t guilty is put to death?
It’s time to stop this execution and as I have advocated both publicly and privately.
There are two alternatives to achieve this.
1-A Federal Appeals judge can order a stay.
2-President Obama can order an Executive Order to stay the execution.
Does America need to have more innocent blood on its hands?
I think not!
