The Hutchinson Report
Hutchinson Report Host Earl Ofari Hutchinson conducted one of the last recorded radio interviews with former Senator and Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern in October, 2010 on his syndicated Hutchinson Report Newsmaker Hour on L.A.’s KTYM Radio. McGovern reflected on his presidential campaign, Watergate, and the questionable tactics used to undermine his presidential bid. But McGovern also expressed no bitterness toward Richard Nixon, and the GOP. He continued to take pride in his opposition to the Vietnam War and his advocacy of a progressive direction in politics for the Democratic Party. He hailed the election of Barack Obama as a positive step forward in promoting minority gains and empowerment in American politics. McGovern continued to express optimism for the future of the country and American politics.
“The wide ranging lengthy on air discussion with George McGovern was an honor and a treat,” ” says Hutchinson, “Despite his growing physical challenges at the time we talked McGovern still remained a forceful, clear, and potent advocate of progressive, democratic politics and principles. American politics owes a profound debt of gratitude to him for his courage and advocacy.”
