Civil Rights Leaders Call for Justice Department Fast Track Probe into
Reported Romney Link to Ohio and Colorado Voting Machines
Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other civil rights leaders on Saturday, October 21 called on the Justice Department to conduct a fast track probe into the reported link between Bain & Co., the Romney campaign, and a Romney campaign bundler and Hart InterCivic which provides voting machines in the crucial swing states of Ohio and Colorado.
According to public records Private equity firm H.I.G. Capital, LLC bought out a “significant” portion of Hart in July of 2011, and now the majority of Hart’s board directors are employees of H.I.G. H.I.G., in turn, has ties to Bain & Co. and Mitt Romney directly. H.I.G. was founded by Tony Tamer, a former Bain employee and bundler for Mitt Romney’s campaign. Of H.I.G.’s 22 American directors, 21 donated to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Of these 22 American directors, seven of them (nearly one-third) are former Bain employees.
“The past and current Romney associates tie to the ownership investment in Hart does not in itself suggest any wrongdoing or impropriety,” says Hutchinson,” However, it does dictate the need for a fast track Justice Department probe to allay public fears that there is no political conflict of interest and any potential for voting irregularities.”
