Civil Rights Leaders Call Suspension of Radio Talk Jocks for Houston Slur “Insulting Hand slap” Demand Indefinite

Suspension and Intense Sensitivity Training

Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other civil rights leaders on Thursday, February 16, called the two day suspension of John and Ken an “insulting hand slap non-punishment.” The shock jock pair were suspended by KFI’s Clear Channel Station for slurring Whitney Houston as a “crack ho.” The pair also mocked Houston’s death by implying that she should have been dead long ago.

Their slur and the death crack are simply the latest in the pair’s long line of slurs, attacks and mockery of minorities. A two day suspension for their continuing inflammatory, irresponsible and racially tinged use of the airwaves is inexcusable. KFI management should impose an indefinite suspension on the pair, require them to undergo sensitivity training, and issue a public pledge to end racial, ethnic and gender attacks.

“Given the long history of John and Ken’s racist, ethnic and gender incendiary attacks, their two day suspension for their gross insensitive slur of Houston and the pain caused by it to her legions of friends, associates and family, “says Hutchinson,” Is beyond ludicrous. The station’s weak non-punishment of them sends the subtle message that radio hosts can abuse and slander anyone with little fear of punishment.”
