Examines the Controversy of the Kentucky Church that Bars Interracial Couples

Hutchinson Report Townhall of the Air

“The Hutchinson Report Town Hall of the Air” on Saturday, December 3, 2011 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Pacific (3:00 PM – 4:00 Eastern) on KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles and streamed globally via www.kpfk.org, will examine the controversial decision by the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Pike County, Ky to ban interracial couples from worshiping at their church. The program will feature exclusive interviews with Bill Estep (Reporter from the Lexington Herald Leader who broke the story), the parents of the interracial couple banned from the church, invited IRS officials, and statements from the National Assn. of Freewill Baptists. The Townhall of the air will give radio listeners a unique opportunity to give their views on the church’s actions.

The program will examine and discuss whether the IRS can and should revoke the churches’s tax exemption. The IRS ban on tax exemptions for churches that practice racial discrimination was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1983.

“The Gulnare Free Will Baptist Churches repugnant decision to ban interracial couples from its church,” says Political Analyst and Hutchinson Report Host Earl Ofari Hutchinson, "Casts the ugly national glare on the issues of race, religion, and government. The Hutchinson Report Townhall will present the voices of those that sparked and are at the center of the controversy.”

Executive Producer and associate host Pedro Baez and Angela Hoffman conducted extensive investigation into the controversy
